HEATHROW TERMINAL 5 OPENING
Glenfiddich and World of Whiskies Commemorate Opening of Heathrow Terminal 5 with Private Vintage.
A 1973 single cask of Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been carefully selected for bottling by World of Whiskies and the Glenfiddich Malt Master, David Stewart, to celebrate the opening of the £4.3billion Heathrow Terminal 5 (T5).
The Glenfiddich Private Vintage 1973 will be available exclusively through World Duty Free’s World of Whiskies shop in T5 from the 27th March, when T5 opens for business after more than five years in construction, until the end of April. It will then become available in other selected World of Whiskies shops.
Cask number 28553, which was filled with new-make Glenfiddich spirit on 24th September 1973, has lain undisturbed in a Glenfiddich warehouse for more than 34 years. Over this long period of time, the whisky has made every year count to develop exceptional quality and character from the American oak cask, delivering an intensely fruity nose with delicate floral notes and gentle hints of oak. The rich and sweet flavour is well balanced, silky smooth and mellow with hints of spice and oak and culminates in a long, lingering finish.
Commenting on the new bottling, the industry’s longest-serving Malt Master with 45 years experience, David Stewart, said: “The opening of Heathrow Terminal 5 by Queen Elizabeth II marks another historic moment in Britain’s proud aviation history. I’m sure single malt drinkers will agree that bottling this remarkable 1973 Glenfiddich is an appropriate way to mark such an occasion.”
The Glenfiddich World Duty Free Terminal 5 Private Vintage Reserve 1973, bottled at 48% ABV, comes in a solid oak presentation box with detailed tasting notes. It is available exclusively from World of Whiskies at £1,000 for a 70cl bottle. All 177 bottles are individually numbered.
