One of Edinburgh’s best kept secrets known to locals as Diggers, this is a true Edinburgh institution, the sort of place where time slows down; but don’t be fooled by the traditional, no-frills set up, this place is serious about whisky and they should be since they've been pouring drams since 1897.

Ask Kev and the team for the pie of the day and sit down at one of their special half tables, designed specifically to fit only a dram and not much more. Their malt list is almost unrivalled in Edinburgh, and very much worth the slight detour to visit.

Glenfiddich has been specially selected as Diggers Malt of the Month throughout August.

Think exposed stone walls, candlelight and a seriously impressive whisky selection. Ask your server for the Glenfiddich Flight, it’s the perfect way to sample a few standout drams and soak up the character of this cosy little hideaway.

If it’s warm, grab a seat out the back and look up to see how Edinburgh used to be built. The original parts of the building date back to the early 1400s. This is a great spot if you want to escape the busy Royal Mile without going too far off the beaten track.
