Jimmy Dean

England

Born in London Jimmy Dean has spent most of his adult life living in the East End, a diverse part of the city where things rapidly change - from the endless and fascinating building works to the ways in which individuals adapt to live and use the capital.

Jimmy is heavily influenced by his environment and popular culture, and this is evident in his art which has caused him to create sculptures and pictures ranging from birds, football and rugby to garden sheds!  In the early 90’s he spent ten months in Mexico where he enjoyed creating unique art using traditional, indigenous methods and styles such as papier mache, ceramics and wood carving and still uses these methods to this day. Often making use of sustainable materials, much of his work is made from recycled items.  Most recently the pandemic has influenced the artists’ work, causing him to made figures reflecting how empty London and our lives have been.
