An extremely limited release of just 200 very special bottles celebrating 50 years of the Glenfiddich Distillery Visitor Centre. A very rare Glenfiddich single cask no. 20050 laid down on Christmas Day in our centenary year, 1987. Matured for over 30 years in American Oak Hogsheads to create a sublime, complex and truly exceptional malt.
For our third experiment, Malt Master Brian Kinsman travelled to Canada to meet a renowned winemaker in Niagara. There he learned how the grapes had to be picked by moonlight at -10˚C to produce the intensely sweet Icewine. Upon his return to the Glenfiddich Distillery Brian started experimenting with several French oak Icewine casks from the Canadian winery, filling them with different Glenfiddich aged malts for up to six months. Only the rarer whiskies, those aged for 21 years, could cope with the extra Icewine intensity.
Fire & Cane is inspired by the early innovation of Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman, who in 2003, first ran peated spirit through the Glenfiddich stills, birthing the concept of what would become the innovative Experimental Series. As the fourth expression of the Experimental Series, Fire & Cane fuses the brand’s smoky whisky with malts that had been maturing side-by-side in bourbon casks, showcasing Glenfiddich’s sweet and fruity signature style. Taking it a step further, all of the whiskies were finished in Latin rum casks to produce a surprising overlay of added caramel toffee sweetness.
In our first groundbreaking experiment, Malt Master Brian Kinsman has proven that traditional whisky casks can be seasoned in an untraditional way. Collaborating with a local Speyside craft brewer, Brian created a bold and zesty IPA craft beer to imbue our rich oak casks with extra hoppy notes. The experiment resulted in the first single malt whisky ever finished in craft IPA casks.
