Happy Retirement Don

Don Ramsay, our longest serving cooper, began with us exactly one week after his 15th birthday on Christmas Day 1961.  As Don's Manager, we had the pleasure of working and travelling together across the world, where he would showcase his coopering talents at whisky festivals in locations such as Washington, New York, Johannesburg and of course Scotland. I remember having many conversations with Don about wood and its importance in relation to the quality of whisky.

Season's Greetings

This month has given me a much lighter, more local travel schedule. On the 5th, I visited Paris for a reveal of the Glenfiddich 50 Year Old at the George V Hotel for media. This included a tasting of the 21, 30 and 40 Year Old before unveiling a bottle of Glenfiddich 50 Year Old for the hotel bar, which will sell at approximately 1000 euros per glass.

A Whisky and Cigar Cocktail

What a busy month this has been! I flew to Montreal for a big event at the Queue de Cheval Restaurant where they purchased a bottle of Glenfiddich 50 Year Old. Fine cigars were made available for the 21, 30 and 40 Year Old whiskies that were also on offer, and as usual I joined in by drinking very old whisky and enjoying fine Cuban cigars – it’s a hard life!

Wild Whisky Weekend

I promised my good friend Hans Henrik Hansen that I would attend his small festival in Denmark this month. It’s called Wild Whisky Weekend and every October, Hans successfully organises this weekend festival at his hotel. Hans is also owner of the biggest collection of Glenfiddich in the world.

Part of the weekend festivities is visiting Hans’ house and the Glenfiddich collection. Everyone was absolutely amazed by the number of rooms which are all full of different bottles of the world`s most awarded single malt Scotch whisky.
