Celebrating over 30 Years of Supporting
Highland Games

As part of our commitment to supporting Scotland’s traditional heritage, we began sponsoring the Grampian series of Highland Games in 1983 and we're proud to continue this relationship in 2017.

The Highland Games

A proud tradition

The origins of the Highland Games date back over a thousand years and every year the Games feature a mix of competitions including athletics, highland dancing, piping and the “Heavy Events”.

“The Heavies” are the stars of the Highland Games– giant men dressed in their own family tartans who perform traditional feats of strength to the amazement of the watching crowd.

The Heavy Athletes compete in seven disciplines at each Games: Light and Heavy Hammer; Light and Heavy Stones or Shots; Weight over the Bar; Weight for Distance and Tossing the Caber.

Competitors receive points based upon their performance in each event. In addition to winning prizes on the day, these points form the basis of the Glenfiddich Heavy Events Championship – a league which runs across all twelve events and culminates with the crowning of the Glenfiddich Heavy Champion at The Braemar Gathering, attended by Her Majesty the Queen on
September 2nd 2017).
